Nantipa is a word in the Chorotega Language that means Blue. The Chorotegans were the native tribe that inhabited the Nicoya Peninsula at the time Columbus and the Spaniards arrived in Costa Rica in the early 1500s. Nicoya is one of the World’s five Blue Zones, as recognized by UNESCO, for the healthy lives and longevity presented by its population.

Our concept combines a series of distinct features that makes the hotel unique in Costa Rica. Nantipa is the only boutique, luxury beachfront hotel, with independent bungalows and direct access to a vibrant surfer beach town with a plethora of options for dining out, shopping and nightlife.

Our mission is to combine World Class design with authentic Costa Rican hospitality right on one of the country’s top beaches. The vibrant and unique natural setting and the barefoot luxury feel of Santa Teresa provide the perfect setting to deliver unique and memorable experiences.



Nantipa offers 15 guest bungalows and suites scattered in a 2.3 hectare property with 155 meters of beachfront. Most rooms feature full or partial ocean views, along with garden and pool views. Every unit has climate controls, cable TV with flat screens, working desk, small dining tables, hammocks, WiFi, minibar.


65 square meters (700 square feet) (Located in two separate buildings, each with four units. First and Second floor Nanku units offer a separate sleeping area with either one king bed or two queen beds, and a large living room space with a pullout sofa bed. Large bathroom and terrace or balcony complete the unit, which is ideal for couples for families with children. Nanku means home in Chorotega, and we aim to provide a home for guests in Santa Teresa. Total Units: 8.


80 square meters (800 square feet) of luxury space with ample terraces, a 3.5 x 3.5 mt (10 x 10 ft) private pool, hammock, king bed and double indoor / outdoor shower. Our floor to ceiling glass doors open to the ocean views and sunset. Ideal for a romantic getaway and a memorable honeymoon. Ninta means beach in Chorotega, and five units are build as close to the beach as legally possible in Costa Rica, with direct access to the sand and surf. Total units: 7



Nantipa’s Restaurant (Manzu) is located on the beach, with direct views of the ocean and sunset. The main dining area features 15 tables that easily accommodate 50 guests, in a very cozy, inviting and relaxed ambiance. Mixology experts from the Mulburry Project have prepared creative and unique cocktails featuring Costa Rica’s tropical fruits and local liqueurs, inviting visitors to mingle, unwind and enjoy the natural beauty.
Dining menus feature Costa Rican inspired cuisine, with local ingredients and creative presentations. The omnipresent Ceviche assortment and the fresh grilled seafood are staples in our menu, that also features favorites like tacos, gallos, casados and other local delicacies.


Nantipa’s main pool is located in the center of the property, inviting all guests to spend relaxing time under the sun, in close proximity to the beach. The pool measures 270 square meters (2700 square feet) with sunbathing area of 305 square meters (3300 sq feet) . In addition, we have ample green and sand space for guest privacy, featuring chaise long and hammocks. A full beverage menu is available for pool-side service.

Spa Services

Nantipa offers limited Spa services in an open bungalow near the beach area. Plans for a full spa are set for phase two of the hotel.



Montezuma Waterfall

Depart from Hotel Nantipa: 8:00 a.m or 3:00 p.m.
Duration: 3 hours.

This canopy consists of a series of 9 cables, 13 platforms that are suspended high above the forest floor. The tour allows the opportunity to see a number of plants and animals unique to the area, including possibly howler and white-faced monkeys, parrots, iguanas and much more. The adventure includes a visit to the famous Montezuma waterfalls, where you will be able to enjoy the views or go for a swim in the pools carved by the cascading waters.

Surf Lessons

Schedules: 8:00 a.m or 2:30 p.m.
Duration: 2.5 hours.
Includes: Bilingual instructor.
We recommend: Bathing suit, sunblock.

Costa Rica is well known as a surfing destination and its time to experience it yourself. Take a 2-hour surfing lesson in Playa Carmen or Playa Hermosa with our certified staff. We welcome lessons for all ages and levels to join us. We will provide rash guards, boards, leashes and transportation. All you need is your suit and some sun block! A maximum of four people to one surf instructor per lesson.

Sport Fishing

Departure from Hotel Nantipa: 7:00 a.m.
Includes: Fishing equipment, beverages, fruit, sandwiches, Captain guide.
We recommend: Sunglasses. Sunscreen, hat, bathing suite, light fast dry clothing.

Once in deep sea, trolling anglers will have a shot to catch Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, Mahi-Mahi and Wahoo. Inshore fishing is done around rocks, reefs, river mouths and estuaries and anglers catch Roosterfish, Tuna, Snapper, Jacks, Mackerel, Snook and more, jigging or trolling. Live this experience with a local Captain, who will share his local expertise and show you some of Nicoya’s fishing traditions. We practice catch-andrelease named-sport, to preserve the treasure of marine species that are found in these pristine waters.

Canopy Malpais

Surrounded by Cabo Blanco National Park, set in the quiet Village of Mal País, this Canopy tour is just 10-15 minutes away from Santa Teresa. The canopy Malpais has the best ocean views, diverse wildlife and over 200 trees lining the tropical forest. The exciting canopy ride is nearly a mile long including 11 platforms and 8 cables, the longest of which spans for 500 meters (800 feet), a suspension bridge, tarzan swing and the first canopy with a surfboard in this area. An unforgettable experience for all ages!

Tortuga Island & Snorkeling

The boat ride from shore to the Island will take about 45 minutes, ride along the coast enjoying the breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and the Nicoya Península. During the boat ride, you may encounter cheerfully dolphins, jumping manta rays, primitive turtles and in some cases while in season humpback & pilot whales. Upon arrival at Tortuga Island, enjoy time snorkeling in the volcanic rock reef surrounded by crystalline waters, home of Angelfish, Porcupine fish, Spotted Eagle Rays among other tropical species. The rest of the morning is spend enjoying the wonderful white sand beach of Tortuga Island where drinks and fruits will be served, while you wait for lunch to be served. Our menu includes fresh BBQ fish (catch of the day) or chicken, sautéed vegetables with delicious grilled potatoes. Following lunch, the afternoon will be yours to enjoy, go for a hike, a swim, rent a kayak, a banana boat, or just chill at the beach. As the day comes to an end, boat ride back to shore and your hotel.

Curú Wildlife

Curú is the first Wildlife Refuge established in Costa Rica, in the year 1983. This farm style refuge combines a sustainable use of land, so wildlife and humans can interact in the same space. The different ecosystems found in Curú, give this area a variety of species that are generally easy to spot along the trails. Varied wildlife in the Reserve will allow the opportunity to possibly see hauler monkeys, white face monkeys, a wide variety of birds, agoutis and other animals. Perfect for those who enjoy bird watching and love nature.

Cabo Blanco Wildlife

Part of the Tempisque Conservation Area, the Cabo Blanco Natural Reserve was created in 1963 by the Scandinavian couple Olof Wessberg and Karen Morgenson. The first major project of conservation in Costa Rica, this reserve came into force to protect the area from the deforestation that took place around the Peninsula of Nicoya in the 1950’s. Located at the southern end of the peninsula, in the province of Puntarenas, this nature reserve has a total area of 1,272 hectares (3,145 acres), as well as 690 hectares (1,700 acres) of the surrounding ocean. There are a total of 119 species of trees, the fauna and community of birds is varied despite the relatively small size of the reserve.

Hacienda Arío

Nantipa is located in the heart of Santa Teresa, a Costa Rican authentic beach town with its own unique culture and style. Nantipa is found 150 meters south of the main Plaza / School, in a property that spans from the main road to the beach, presenting 155 meters (approximately 450 feet) of beach line.

The property is heavily forested and has direct access to two swimming spots – one with natural ocean pools that form in the low tide – and is within close walking distance to the best breaks and waves.

Many well known restaurants featuring cuisine from many regions, along with bakeries, coffee shops, small strip malls and bars are found along the main road and on the beach side, giving guests a wealth of dining, shopping and nightlife alternatives.
