How to get to Nantipa, Santa Teresa

Santa Teresa is easily accessible via land, ocean and air. Transportation services feature a wide range of prices, from shared scheduled transfers to private helicopter rides. The most popular ways to get to Nantipa are:

If you arrive in San José, there are two main ways to reach Santa Teresa. The fastest option is taking a 30-minute domestic flight to Cobano Airport, followed by a 30-minute drive to Nantipa. Alternatively, you can take a private transfer or rental car. Drive from San José to Puntarenas, take the ferry across the Gulf of Nicoya to Paquera, and then continue to Santa Teresa (5-6 hours total).

Daily ferry services connect Puntarenas to Paquera. Tickets must be purchase in advance to secure space for guests and car (www.quickpaycr.com). This is a picturesque and scenic way to enjoy the Gulf of Nicoya and the islands. The ride takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes and departs on schedule 4 times a day each way. We advise arriving to check in 30 minutes ahead of departure.

If you arrive in Liberia, you can reach Santa Teresa by private transfer, rental car, or domestic flight to Cobano Airport. The driving time is approximately 4 hours through the Nicoya Peninsula. There are also limited domestic direct flights from Liberia to Cobano Airport, typically 1–2 flights per day depending on the season. The flight takes around 30 minutes, followed by a 30-minute drive to Nantipa.

The Cobano landing strip is located within a 30 minute drive from Nantipa. Two commercial airlines offer scheduled flights daily – Sansa and Costa Rica Green Airways – with 12 seat Caravan planes. Both depart from San Jose. Charter flights can land from anywhere in Costa Rica. Multiple companies offer the service from 2 to 12 passenger planes. Nantipa offers transfers from the airport for a fee.
